Here is some comic book news you might have missed as reported by Hollywood Reporter, DMG Entertainment, the company that brought us movies such as Looper and Chappaquiddick, has acquired Valiant Entertainment, the comic publisher that boasts the third-largest universe of superhero characters (over 2000!).

SDCC 2015 DST Minimates Panel

Javier Rodriguez from the Minimates for you and me Facebook page, just dropped a ton of pictures from the Diamond Select Toys Minimates panel at SDCC! We start off seeing the Walgreens exclusive Marvel Animated line that will be in stores on September 4th, then we get our first look at wave 1.5 of the Marvel Animated line including highlights like Hulkbuster, Miles Morales and Phil Coulson! We're also treated to two of the Fan's Choice Animated reveals, Squirrel Girl & Man Thing! After that news, we're shown tons of new Minimates products that will be released from now to Winter 2016 including The Walking Dead, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Godzilla, Predator & Aliens to name a few properties! Diamond Select Toys and Valiant Debut New X-O Manowar/Bloodshot Minimates Two-Pack

Back in the 1990,s I would have never though we would see anymore Valiant books (after the collapse). I enjoyed Valiant back in the day and I enjoy them even more now. Seeing product such as Minimates seems to bring everything full circle. If you're a fan such as myself, you need to see what DST did with this property. In the early 1990s, the speculation boom brought lots of new customers into comic shops. Some professionals in the industry though it might be a good time to create new universes to draw these new readers in, and some used purchased licenses to build those universes around. Valiant was one of those companies. Structured around purchased Silver Age Gold Key characters Solar, Man of the Atom and Magnus, Robot Fighter, Jim Shooter directed the construction of a universe complete with new characters, brought in creators like Barry Windsor-Smith and Dave Lapham, and engage readers on a level not seen in years. Valiant seemed like it might survive the eventual bursting of the speculation bubble, but alas, it was not to be.
