Sonic Game We’ve Been Waiting For

The Sonic game we’ve all been waiting for is finally on the horizon. With the birth of 3D graphics when the Xbox, PS2, Gamecube, and Dreamcast, came a resurgence of classic franchises taking advantage of the new technology. This new tech included more storage space on the disk compared to the cartridge that was used before. This tech spawned games like Sonic Adventure, Mario Sunshine, Doom 3, and Metal Gear. Some of these games we have seen succeed with flying colors while others just crashed and burned in an attempt to make a coherent story or character development for games that either didn’t need it or we didn’t care.

It is starting to come full circle and we are now starting to see some of these games come back to their roots. The most recent Doom, for example, was what we all wanted Doom 3 to be. Polygon reported from Comic Con San Diego yesterday that Sonic Mania will be available next year for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. This Sonic game will not use the newest tech in 3D graphics or the Unreal engine. What it will be, is a throw back to the 1991 Sonic game on the Genesis. You know, the one we all love. This game will include 3 playable characters (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles) with high rez graphics but still the same style as the 16 bit game that made a generation of gamers. With all new levels and some familar ones, and some new moves, this will be a game that will bring nostalgia and glee to all Sonic fans.
