Playmates TMNT Monsters + Mutants Full Reviews! Its Monster Madness!!

This month we were featuring a new TMNT Monsters + Mutants and we got through the first but life got in the way. The good news is we have the rest and it’s total monster mayhem! These are some of the best TMNT figures I have ever laid hands on and I will tell you all why in just a bit. I do want to take a moment and thank Playmates for sending us these samples. Not only was I amazed, I had a good time with these.

As you all know Vampire Raph already went up so that means we have the rest of the gang here and we have tons of images! Included in the review are the following:

  • Monster Hunter Leo (comes with a pair of daggers and his signature katanas)
  • Monster Hunter Raph (comes fully disguised, with a detachable machine gun)
  • Mutant Mummy Leo (comes with a sword and a deadly golden cobra)
  • Werewolf Mikey (comes with a set of bone nunchuks and a slice of pizza)
  • Frankendon (Monstrously mutated Frankendon comes with a bo staff)

Up first is Frankendon. This figure portrays the horror legend Frankenstein and Playmates did not disappoint.  The articulation is what you would expect for a TMNT figure but its the sculpt that wins me over. This figure is so much fun to play with and and the classic TMNT weapon is here. Playmates ensured each Turtle had their signature weapon but made them with a twist. Frankendon’s Bo staff is so Frankenstein as it reminds me of something pulled from his laboratory. Small things like this I appreciated and Im sure kids and collectors alike will feel the same.

The next figure from the line is Werewolf Mikey. This one comes last when you rank all the monsters. I’ve never cared for werewolves but Playmates makes this fun. Once again the sculpt is top notch and the paint apps pop. I dig the bone nunchuks as well as it was a nice touch to the figure. One thing I do want to mention is the extra foot joint on some of these figures. This enables fans to put the Turtles in more freighting posses. This one was fun but it’s nothing compared to the next one on the list.

Mutant Mummy leo is top dog folks! This one was a blast and easily my favorite out of the line. The sculpt is what does it for me and the colors pop. I know it’s white but man, this figure is awesome! I love the accessories (sword and cobra snake) and it’s fitting for the character! The sword has that Egyptian feel and that scarab on the leg of the Mummy was a nice touch.  I have nothing bad to say about this figure.

Now we covered the monsters and with any good line they must fight someone. In this case we have Monster Hunter Raph and Leo. I normally do not pull for the goodguys but in this case they have to rescue their brothers! While they are monsters, they are still family. I know thats a silly thing to say but chalk that up to imagination! Both figures sport the same articulation style but leo can remove his hat. I love the fact that we have a little tab in the back to attach the hat to and Leo does sport his signature katanas.

Raph sports an amazing machine gun that looks like something out of Van Helsing and if I was Vampire Raph I would run! Now these is one thing I would like to point out, the coats are not removable. It looks like you can take off Leo’s coat but I did not chance it. You can remove his backpack though. Overall the monster hunters were fun figures and very well designed. I will give this entire line 10 out of 10 as I did not see anything that disappointed me as a fan. I will also mention that MOST of the stores are out of this series. Once in a while I will see a Raph or Leo floating around but that’s about it. There is a reason why TMNT wins top awards each year and the line always places high on our top 10 list. Congrats Playmates, you made my day with these figures! Now onto the images!!
