RECOMMENDATION:

This is a great series with fantastic, complex characterization. It accurately captures the feel of the modern, rural south. It’s extremely violent and graphic, but only in service to the plot. The artwork is the perfect thing to set this book apart from mainstream comics, which after so many comics, begin to look the same. To say too much about the story is to spoil it, but to keep it short, there is not  an ending that can be be defined as happy or tragic, just dark, which is something that can be appreciated as long as the story is good, and this one certainly is.

This is the gift for friends that skirt the independent comics scene, but love the pathos and action of mainstream comics. Since the series is still being published, if someone likes the book, but want to see the next chapter, issues are available. It’s certainly a comic for mature readers, so this is not a book to get for your nephew. Also consider this for that person that just loves good comic art, and appreciates the various styles out there.
