Comics Christmas Shopping Suggestions: Day Twelve
Between now and Christmas, every day we’ll highlight a suggestion for gift giving. All of these suggestions will be comics-themed, and every day will see one featured.
For Day Eleven, I’m going to a comic that everybody should have heard of, but some people still haven’t just due to its popularity making issues hard to find.
BATWOMAN VOL 01: HYDROLOGY HARDCOVER GRAPHIC NOVEL
Story By: J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman
Art By: J.H. Williams III and Amy Reeder
SOLICITATION:
As a part of the acclaimed DC Comics – The New 52, Batwoman’s new series begins from the team of J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman with this title collecting issues #0-5! Who or what is stealing children from the barrio, and for what vile purpose? Will Kate train her cousin, Bette Kane (a.k.a. Flamebird), as her sidekick? How will she handle unsettling revelations about her father, Colonel Jacob Kane? And why is a certain government agency suddenly taking an interest in her? These are some of the questions that will be answered in these spectacular stories! Hardcover, 160 pages.
RECOMMENDATION:
The first 5 issues of this series was a bright spot in what was, for me, a very frustrating roll-out for the New 52. J.H. Williams III does astounding layouts and his attention to detail is almost unparalleled. Fans of great comic book art would love to just sit and study these pages. Their characterization of the characters are a direct continuation of Greg Rucka’s series in Detective Comics, which made me fall in love with the character.
The best part about this being the first collection is that volumes 2 and 3 are also available. It’s also been out long enough that if you’re on a tight Christmas budget, then you can search online and get it for a bargain price.
