Batwoman And Maggie Sawyer Romance In DC’s Crimes Of Passion
It might be safe to say that the most popular LGBTQ couple in mainstream comics is Batwoman and Maggie Sawyer. Okay there is the on again – off again relationship with Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, but people genuinely miss Batwoman and Maggie Sawyer. They were engaged and suddenly DC Editorial passed a blanket edict that none of their heroes were going to be married. As everyone knows, that ruling changed some time ago, which is perfect for their Valentine’s Day special, Crimes of Passion.
DC Comics’ Valentines’ Day special anthology, Crimes of Passion is set to come out on February 5 and feature work from creators like James Tynion IV, Steve Orlando, Sina Grace, Jay Baruchel, Stephanie Phillips, Greg Smallwood, Riley Rossmo, Andie Tong, Mike Norton, Anthony Spay, John Paul Leon and others. Included in that list is Jordan Clark, who has a building list of credits. His first published work for DC Comics will be with the two characters everyone has missed since DC Editorial got in the way of their engagement.
Here are the tweets he posted on January 3 about the story.
At a time when there were virtually no LGBTQ romances in superhero comics, Kate and Maggie were a breath of fresh air in more ways than one. Their relationship felt so real right from the start and only got better over time. pic.twitter.com/wW8F16DtbE

Their relationship has always stuck with me as an example of how to do a rich and complex romance. For fans of @ruckawriter and @JHWilliamsIII runs on Detective Comics and Batwoman, hopefully this story can hit in a similar way. pic.twitter.com/tmaFadKeaO

We should notice that there are no talks of Batwoman and Maggie being back together. Of course, that would also spoil the story. To be honest we shouldn’t be surprised if they don’t get back together, as a lot of time has passed. We also shouldn’t be surprised if they do. Sometimes, fan service gets used for good. As long as the story is good, we shouldn’t mind. Since it’s from Jordan Clark, I have no doubt that it will be a good story.
