A Word About The Amazon Links (An Editorial)

You may have noticed the Amazon links at the bottom of some of the articles, mostly in the comics section. Primarily due to a desire to be completely transparent in how we write articles, I want to take the opportunity to address these links and why they’re showing up at the end of the articles.

  1. Clicking these links benefits us directly. Clicking helps, but not as much as ordering something after you do. It doesn’t necessarily need to be what is advertised, but it is important that you place an order after clicking a link from our web site. The more orders that are placed, the more we earn from the program.
  2. We don’t want to use native advertising. We’ve found that the Amazon links are the most ethical form of advertising at our disposal, especially when compared to “native” advertising. We have been contacted by companies wanting to use our web site to post content that they write, camouflaging an ad as an article. We find that this is dishonest. We do have the Big Bad Toy Store articles which classify as native advertising, but we clearly mark these with their name at the beginning of the article, hopefully making it clear that they are advertisements. We are not trying to pass them off as something that they are not.
  3. We choose what is advertised in the Amazon links. Every ad is placed by us and chosen to reflect the article that they’re placed in. This prevents you from getting ads that do not pertain to the article that you’re reading. Most of the time, this will mean that we’re advertising books, but occasionally DVDs and toys will be there as well.
  4. You should still check with your local comic shop first. Local stores are the lifeblood of the comics industry. Our placement of the Amazon links should not be considered as a suggestion that you forego your local comic shop. We suggest that you use these links when you cannot get something in particular from your local comic shop or if you do not have a local shop to patronize. While we appreciate you using the Amazon links in order to help us out, we want the industry to remain viable far into the future.

That all being said, this is how you can help us to continue to bring you reviews, articles and news. We hope in the coming months to be able to improve the site and more income from the Amazon Affiliates Program will go a long way.

Thank you for your support.
