Needless Market Report for 7/12/17

This week is a huge folks. Tons of releases and plenty of books to snag. I sure hope you all went for the Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe again as the variants are hot. The regular cover is not doing so bad on it’s own so don’t count that one out just yet. The book was a fun read and this series should be a solid hit. Not much else has moved on the market with the new releases but if you manage to snag a 3rd print of Batman #24 I would do it.

This week we will be looking at several new releases and just take note, next week we will in SDCC mode so the column will be held back till the following week. We will try and post as much news from SDCC as possible so please check back with us. Now on for this weeks picks.

Amazing Spider-Man Vol 4 #30

I have a confession to make, I am behind on reading this series. Do not get me wrong, I love Amazing Spider-Man but the thing that drove me to pick this book is the cover. I really like Alex Ross and he always impresses me with his covers. This is a gorgeous cover and I do plan to catch up this week.  Also the Jim Lee Variant cover is a must have. Yes, the Jim Lee X-Men trading card covers are still coming and this might be a good pickup.

Edge Of Venomverse #2 Cover

You guys really need to be reading this book. The concept of popular characters getting venomized is refreshing. Plus you never know which character might pop out of this book! Look for both a regular cover from Francesco Mattina  and a variant from Ron Lim.

Darth Vader Vol 2 #3

Now this book is a ton of fun. I loved the first issue and the second was no slouch. It’s been a while since I was anticipating the next issue and Darth Vader does just that. Issue 3 could see a survivor emerge from Order 66 and new characters have a tendency to make books jump. Also the premises behind this title is exciting. I want to see Vader fight older Jedi and this issue gives us just that. Keep this one on your pull list. Look for a regular cover from  Olivier Coipel and a variant from Giuseppe Camuncoli. On a side note, the variant is already hitting $12-15 so do not wait to pick this up.

Jean Grey #4 Cover C Incentive June Brigman Variant Cover

This book made the list due to June Brigman as her covers are spectacular. Of course this is a Jim Lee X-Men trading card variant but it also sports Phoenix, whom is one of my all time favorite characters. I will buy this book AND read it and you should do the same. Her other covers can be bought under $20 dollars but this one is, in my opinion, one of her best.

Spider-Men II #1

While i’m no fan of this character, I do like the premises of this book. Call me jaded but I likes the Peter Parker of the Ultimate Universe. Still, Miles has come a long way and this release is huge. We have a total of 6 covers to choose from and we will list them all here. Now for some backstory on why this book will be hot:

“THIS IS IT, TRUE BELIEVERS! The moment five years in the making is finally here! The first time Peter Parker and Miles Morales met ended with a question — WHO IS THE MILES MORALES OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE?! Now that the Miles you know and love is with Peter in the Marvel Universe, you’re finally going to get that answer to who the OTHER Miles Morales is! And that’s just the tip of the iceberg as Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli bring you the next heart-stopping adventure for both Peter Parker and Miles Morales!” The one to keep an eye out for will be the Julian Totino Tedesco Variant Cover. Sales are already hitting $45 online. People love Julian Totino Tedesco art.

Red Hood And The Outlaws Vol 2 #12

We might have a sleeper here. It look like the death of Bizarro is at hand…possibly. If you check out the two homage covers it very well could be. In fact, both of these covers could be movers if this book does well with readers. The first one pays respect to the Death of Superman and the second deals with the breaking of the Batman. I do love both of these covers and I plan to pick both up. Now for some insight for this story arc:

“THE LIFE OF BIZARRO” part one! Bizarro’s final days are upon us! As Red Hood and the Outlaws rush home to Gotham City in an effort to save Bizarro’s life, a new threat is unleashed in the form of Solomon Grundy! Can the Outlaws stop Grundy’s rampage without their most powerful member? Who unleashed the monster in the first place? And can Grundy defeated in time to save Bizarro from certain death? Find out in the start of a brand new adventure!”

Dark Days The Casting #1

You have to love the big Summer time event books and this one looks to be fun. Maybe. I will give it a try of course mostly do to Rebirth. DC has come a long way with storytelling and Rebirth was good! I loved every book I read and it made the New 52 disappear from my radar. The thing about this book is the talent behind it. We will have superstar writers Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV with art by the likes of Andy Kubert, Jim Lee and John Romita Jr. Now that is an all star lineup! Look for both a regular foil stamp cover and variants from Andy Kubert and John Romita Jr. Now for some backstory from this book:

“The Joker’s surprise attack threatens to lay waste to all of Batman’s carefully laid plans. Will the Dark Knight be able to regain the trust of his closest allies, Green Lantern and Duke, and prevent the forces of darkness from consuming the DC Universe?! Will Hawkman’s warning stop our heroes from peering into the abyss?”

Now for our back issue report.

Venom: Sinner takes all #2

Chances are you missed this book and you need to rectify that situation soon. Sony announced that  Venom’s ex-wife Ann Weying will be appearing in the Venom film. We do not know if she will bond with the symbiote but the idea is there and this book could explode! She Venom made her first appearance in this issue and this could become a key down the road. I would pick it up.

That is all for this week folks and remember, there will be no market Report next week as we will be diving into all the awesome news from SDCC! Look for toy news, comic news and of course trailer reveals and so forth. It should be a good week indeed.

  • Tracy Isenhour

I think we will do a recap soon on these past few weeks just to see how things are moving on the market. Also would you guys like to see more back issue reports? Let us know in the comments section.

    • I would definitely like more back issue reports as opposed to new books. Covering so many new books seems just too much like feeding the speculators.
