Milkfed Criminal Masterminds HeroesCon
The Milkfed Criminal Masterminds held their second HeroesCon panel this year. Last year’s panel was so funny, My wife & I knew we had to catch this year’s panel too. Read on to see what was announced and discussed.
The Milkfed Criminal Masterminds panel started on a bit of a somber note as Matt Fraction discussed how they held a moment of silence last year for the victims of the Charleston shooting and now a year later we have the Orlando tragedy. Rather than being silent, they wanted to be heard today, so they decided to honor the victims (who were out to have a fun time dancing) by singing the gayest song they could think of (Somewhere over the Rainbow) They asked the audience to stand and join them in singing the song and so we rose and sang (even those of us, like me, who couldn’t remember many lyrics other than the name of the song)
We were then introduced to the panel (Matt Fraction, Kelly Sue Deconnick, Valentine De Landro, Kit Cox, Fabio Moon, Gabriel Ba & Lauren Sankovitch)
The first news is the updated Milkfed Criminal Masterminds website! The new website was already live and is pretty easy to navigate. There’s a full schedule and lists of upcoming books. There are also some discount codes hidden through out that are one time use codes for many of the merchandise companies Milkfed has partnered with.
Speaking of merchandise, Milkfed Criminal Masterminds will be selling leggings for Bitch Planet, Pretty Deadly and ODY-C that will range from extra small petite up to 6XL.
The subject of new books was next with announcements of this week’s new Bitch Planet and Pretty Deadly. There was also talk of Pretty Deadly Volume 2 due out August 24th It will include interviews and other back matter. ODY-C will have an adult coloring book released on August 10th
Last year you may remember me reporting that Kelly Sue Deconnick mentioned that she got to write an episode of a TV show. Well now we can reveal that said show is NBC’s Emerald City! The show is a take off of the Wizard of Oz with Vincent D’Onofrio playing the wizard. Matt Fraction mentioned how this role is kind of like the reverse of his Kingpin role as that role was very constrained and had him looking inward, the wizard role has him very all over the place and let loose.
Speaking of television, Matt Fraction mentioned how he’s written a pilot for a Sex Criminals TV show. The story is true to the book, but it’s it’s own thing. When asked who he’d like playing the main characters in this, Fraction replied that he wouldn’t be tied down to their looks, as long as they could pull off the character. There’s no plans so far for a Sex Crimz show, but he’s written the pilot.
There were also a couple of other upcoming projects the folks at Milkfed Criminal Masterminds told us about including “The Recidivist” with art by Annie Wu and written by Matt Fraction & Chip Zdarsky. There was also mention of another book called Adventure Man by Matt Fraction and Terry Dodson.
Near the end of the panel, Bill Sienkiewicz joined the group (a little later Fabio Moon & Gabriel Ba had to run to another panel) Kelly Sue talked about working with Bill on an upcoming project then the panel turned to questions from the audience
The panel was 2 hours long, but it never really felt that long. The Milkfed Criminal Masterminds are a funny group that hold fun panels with humor filled contests like “Kanye, Ultron or Tallulah” (Funny phrases are read aloud and you have to figure out who said it) Just like last year, there was also a Brimpup held at Buffalo Wild Wings after the con that has become a tradition for me and my wife.
