Marvel Launches Civil War II In 2016
Secret Wars, the last great Marvel Event, won’t be finished until early next year and Marvel has announced the next great event, Civil War II. Is it meant to capitalize on the Captain America feature film arriving in May? Is it meant to distract that Secret Wars will end fourteen weeks behind schedule? Of course, we’re not going to get any of these answers right now, as the news just hit.
Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez and Justin Ponsor will be the primary creative team on CIVIL WAR II. Bendis promises that Civil War II will be an earth-shattering Marvel event. David Marquez talked primarilly about how excited he was to show what he can do as an artist, but acknowledged the huge challenge to follow the original event’s art team of Steve McNiven and Dexter Vines. Editors Tom Brevoort and Axel Alonso likened the new series to the original crossover event that changed the Marvel Universe for years.
There is no set launch date for the event to start, but with Captain America: Civil War launching the weekend of Free Comic Book Day, it would be a safe bet that Marvel’s offerings will have something to tie in with this latest event to demand that Marvel fans spend more money at their local comic shop.
