Battlefront 2. Is it Still Good?
Star Wars: Battlefront 2 came out for the PC, PS2, and Xbox just in time for the holiday in 2005. Eleven years later, EA released a new Battlefront just in time for Episode 7 last year. So, the question is, which is better given the time it came out and which one would I want to go play right now?
The Battlefront games put you in the Star Wars universe like no other game has done before. You play the role of a grunt soldier in the heat of battle during some of the most iconic battles from the movies, on and off camera. Battles like Hoth from The Empire Strikes Back has you on foot and in ground and air vehicles to combat the enemy. When a player is doing well, they are given the option to play as a hero to continue wrecking the other team. You can also play on either side of the war, being able to turn the tide of combat and rewrite Star Wars history.
Where both games play similarly, there are many differences. Both games have online capabilities and a number of maps to choose from. Although, Battlefront 2 (2005) came out when DLC and online software updates was not an option, so it launched very polished and complete because there was no other way to do it. When Battlefront 2015 launched, it lacked… alot. with less than 75% of playable maps, online only play, only four heros to play to turn the tide of combat, and less than half the unique game modes left alot to be desired. But fret not! We live in an age where DLC (downloadable content) is a reality. Where after you paid 60$ for a game, you have to continue shelling out money to get the full game. That meant more maps, heros, and game modes came out but you would have to fork up and extra 50$ to get the season pass where you get all those extras going forward.
So, whats my bottom line? When I get home, which one will i buy (at full retail price) tonight? My answer is the 2005 version. With more to offer and online servers still available, this game is more finished and less bull-hockey when I want to play it.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005): 5 stars and still holds up
Star Wars Battlefront (2015): EA needs to make it free on EA Access because that’s about all it’s worth (Mic Drop)
