Through an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso revealed the identity of the main character in Totally Awesome Hulk will be the one character almost everyone speculated it would be. Amadeus Cho, a popular supporting character will become a new Hulk, and if a new Hulk wasn’t enough of an impact, there’s a cultural significance. Amadeus Cho, a Korean-American character will be written and drawn by Korean-American creators, Greg Pak and Frank Cho.
In the interview, Alonso did reveal that unlike Spider-Man, after the Marvel Universe restarts, there will be only one Hulk, and Cho is it. Bruce Banner will be around, but freed of his burden. Alonso and Greg Pak both shared that Cho will relish being the Hulk, far different from his predecessor. Both were also excited about working with Frank Cho.
The first storyline will take advantage of Frank Cho’s strengths, putting the Totally Awesome Hulk on a big monster hunt, as illustrated by a teaser image from the third issue, with Amadeus Cho slugging a two-headed monster. If there’s one thing Frank Cho likes drawing more than women, it’s big monsters.
Greg Pak and Alonso also revealed that the second large part of the story with this new Hulk will be what has happened with Bruce Banner, which Pak promises to be “a real honest, meaty, emotional story where we’re watching a character grapple with some real things.”
Totally Awesome Hulk #1 hits stores in December.
